Sukarno was brought up in a Java family who liked Wayang (puppet show) Very much. For Soekarno, Wayang was not only as an entertainment but also as a live guidance. This art background had normatively influenced his ways of thinking which can be seen clearly in his political thoughts and religion. On his busy day, he always spent sometimes to act as a performer of " Wayang Purwa" to follow his art calling. Since his actions were very controversial and tend to be rough, all his friends in the politician group called him as Bima, an arrogant but opened-minded knight. Sukarno as not only an art lover but also a truly artist who knew deeply about the beauty of art. In years, he had given more attention to the art development and chose and collected art works from the Indonesian artists and others country. We can see at least 384 paintings and 167 sculptures and porcelains collection of Sukarno in an art book, composed by Lee Man-Fong, and titled as 'Lukisan-Lukisan dan Patung Koleksi Presiden Sukarno' (Paintings and Statues Collection of the President Soekarno). Lee Man-Fong is painter who works in the president palace for Soekarno in 1964. Soekarno's art works such as 'Rini', finished on 2 November 1958 and the 'Potret Sang Putri' (A Photo of a Princes) can be said a level with the other Indonesian maestro artists at the time. In his opinion, all the paintings and statues, he collected, are the proofs of 'the meaning of freedom'. In an art book, he ever said that how grateful is a nation if they can get their freedom!
